Telecommunications Improvements to Eight Dormitories

Installation of the new telecommunications wiring infrastructure by Koehler Cabling Co. included:

  • Replacing all phone lines to each of 3,000 dorm rooms
  • Installation of new Internet connections to each dorm room
  • Splicing of up to 1,800 pairs of incoming phone lines due to relocation of telecommunications closets
  • Construction of 32 new telecommunications closets

A variety of support systems were used to install raceways:

  • Cable Tray Conduit
  • J-hooks Cat Trax

Telecommunications improvements to
eight dormitories on the University of
Iowa campus took over one million feet
of Category 3 & 5 wire and fiber optic
and very careful planning. A dorm room
is a person's home and Koehler Electric
had to go into 3,000 "homes," causing
as little disruption as possible.

"This was a high profile project with a lot of pressure to do it quickly and well. Everyone at Koehler Electric, from the office folks to field personnel, did a wonderful job! They really put forth a conscientious effort to make this project work. Schedules were well planned out and passed on to the residents. Everything went really well!"
